Festival season 2020- My hopes and predictions
So now a few months have passed since the end of festival season for this year, it's got to the time where next year's lineup are starting to be released, which made me want to write a post about who I hope I'll be seeing sometime next summer. Instead of talking about who I want to see generally I thought I'd specify a few festivals I'm most likely to attend (although I doubt I'll attend all of them), so in this post I'll be discussing my line-up predictions for Community, 2000 Trees, Truck, and Reading/Leeds.
Community festival:
Community is a one day festival held annually at Finsbury park in London since 2017. I attended the festival in 2018 but sadly not in 2019 due to the fact that I would've practically only been going to see Don Broco. Surprisingly there hasn't been much news on community at all for next year, especially as by this time the past couple of years, the first line-up announcement had already been released. Despite this though the festival is definitely going ahead for next year and I suspect they'll be keeping it in its current format as just a day festival. This festival is primarily indie music based however they usually have a couple of rockier acts in there throughout the day, just not headlining. Thinking about the main stage first off, I really don't know who I'd like to see headline as I can't think of any indie bands I listen to that are big enough to and haven't already. I'd predict that the Courteeners are in with a pretty good shot as they have a new album coming next year and fit in pretty well with the demographic of the festival. I guess Royal Blood could also do it as a slightly rockier headliner but I really don't know much about what they're doing at the moment, only that I enjoyed their set at Reading this year.
Lower down on the line up I'd say Sam Fender has a good chance of coming back and playing the main stage, perhaps subbing, and this is definitely something I could see YUNGBLUD doing as well. For the slightly heavier act they usually have I guess YUNGBLUD could fulfill that criteria for them, but I'd also say Neck Deep could possibly play.
Onto the smaller stage which I'd say I preferred when I attended the festival, I think Sports Team should definitely play as they haven't before and would fit in pretty well, and I'd also say that easy life have a pretty good shot at headlining it. To be honest I'm definitely not as clued up on smaller indie bands as I used to be which makes predictions for this stage and lower down on the main stage much harder, but if I do attend this festival myself I would probably be going more for just a nice day out than to see a lot of music.
2000 Trees:
Although I haven't attended 2000 Trees myself, It's been one I've wanted to for the past couple of years and as it's not too far away from me, I'd definitely like to go next year if the line-ups decent. They've already announced their first headliner as Jimmy Eat World which I'm really not fussed about, but I'm holding out hope that either Neck Deep or Frank Carter might headline the other two nights, which in that case I'd be quite likely to go (if they weren't already at another festival I'd be attending). I also think Creeper are quite likely to play again but I don't think they're big enough to headline. Also on the line-up I'd love to see Boston Manor, Trash Boat, WSTR, and Holding Absence, although I know the majority of them played this year so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.
Truck:
This is the only festival I'm definitely attending next year as I already have my ticket, so if any festival needs to have a good line up it's this one. Headliner wise I really don't know who to predict as I can't really think of anyone of the right size that I really want to see, except from maybe Loyle Carner. I think Bombay Bicycle Club might headline one night as they've got a new album on the way and fit the demographic but other than that I don't know who to predict. Perhaps Blossoms could headline as again they seem about the right size to be a headliner, but I'm not a fan so have no idea what their plans are for next summer. I also think Ian Brown's quite likely to play but perhaps as a sub-headliner (unless he is big enough to headline? I really don't know). Gerry Cinnamon's also never played the festival before and is doing an arena tour in May so he might well play. I have no idea on his positioning though as I wouldn't have thought he was big enough for an arena tour but he's still doing one, however this could just be because I'm really not a fan. I'd love to see both Tom Grennan and Declan Mckenna somewhere on the line up as well as I haven't been able to see either of them this year. I know Declan is on the festival circuit for next year and I would guess that Tom is as well despite just having one European festival announcement so far. Either of them would also probably be about the right size to perhaps headline the Thursday night of the festival.
Reading and Leeds:
I don't want to repeat myself too much but since Reading and Leeds have artists from so many genres on the line up, pretty much all of the people I've already mentioned that I'd like to see elsewhere also have a good shot of playing Reading due to the amount of acts that do play over the weekend, so I'll try not to mention anyone I've already talked about. In regards to headliners, one of the only bands I really want to see headline is Bring Me The Horizon as other than that I'm not sure who I like that's big enough and actually likely to play. I'd love to see Slaves play and perhaps headline the Radio 1 stage as they were so good at Truck and it's highly unlikely they'll be back there so soon. I'm also desperate to see Don Broco again and perhaps sub headline the radio 1 stage but I did read somewhere that Slam Dunk is an exclusive so I'm waiting for more information about that before I get my hopes up. I'd love to see Trophy Eyes come back to the UK and I think this is probably the festival they're most likely to play if they do come back over here. Other than that I really can't think of anyone I haven't already mentioned that I'd like to see, and is actually likely to.
