What's been happening?

In all honesty, I was really struggling to think of a post for this week so I decided that it could be interesting for me to talk about some of the music news I've been seeing and discuss my thoughts on it. If people like this sort of post then it could be something I do regularly and if not we'll just pretend it never happened.

The start of UK festival season:

I guess May sees the proper start of festival season here in the UK, with a few day-long events across the month. Whilst we still have the first few dates of of All Points East, Slam Dunk, and Radio 1's big weekend to look forward to (as well as probably loads more) in the last couple of weekends this month, Live at Leeds and The Great Escape festival have already been and gone.

Live at Leeds had a pretty strong line up this year with over 100 bands playing across 20 stages, Tom Grennan (a personal favourite of mine) and Sundara Karma topped off the bill as well as Easy Life, Black Honey, Marsicans, Sam Fender, and Sports Team (another of my favourites) lower down on the line up. Although I live in the South/Midlands (still not actually sure) I kept up with the day through Instagram stories but unfortunately a lot of those have disappeared now and I can only find one video on YouTube which is from Sam Fender's set at the o2 academy- if you are interested you can watch it here. the day seemed like a lot of fun and if you like the sound of a multi-venue festival in the heart of a city then perhaps check it out next year.

Much like Live at Leeds, The Great Escape is also a multi-venue festival, but this time held in Brighton across four days instead of just one. Described as 'the festival for new music' showcasing up and coming artists 'before they headline major festival stages', the line-up understandably features smaller bands, however Lewis Capaldi did headline this year and he's already pretty big now, as well as AJ Tracey slightly lower down on the bill. I don't actually know a lot of the bands on the line-up as despite knowing a lot of smaller British bands, many of the acts are from elsewhere in the world. From who I do know though, I can recommend Easy Life and Sports Team (although I did mention them both earlier in this post), but also Zuzu and LUCIA. If you're after something pretty different and maybe slightly Bowie-esque perhaps check out 'Walt Disco', although not personally my thing, I saw them support Sports Team back in March and it was an interesting set to say the least.

The 1975- nothing on June 1st?

A little while ago, Matty Healy announced in an interview that we'd be hearing the first single from the 1975's highly anticipated album 'Notes on a Conditional Form' on June 1st, I can't remember exactly where and when he said it, and frankly i can't be asred to try and find it now so you'll just have to take my word for it. Anyway, when the band's manager, Jamie Oborne was answering questions from fans on twitter last week, he said there'd be no new single on the1st (if you don't know, the 1975 usually release/do something that day every year). I'm not too annoyed by this but I do think it's a bit unprofessional to promise something and then not deliver, but I'm still really excited for whenever they do choose to release new music and perhaps they'll still do something on June 1st, even if it isn't new music.

Lower Than Atlantis final shows

Last week, Lower Than Atlantis played their 3 final shows in Manchester, Birmingham, and London. They announced these shows and the split back in December and understandably people were devastated, especially as they've been a band for 11 years. I don't exactly want to speculate but they may have split due to their front-man Mike being a massive dick and that was definitely proved with these last few shows. At the Birmingham gig on Friday, he was unable to perform (got really smashed the night before and fucked up his voice) so the support act singer had to fill his place by reading the lyrics off of his phone. Some said it was still a good show just not what they paid for, while others left early and wanted refunds (none are being given as far as I'm aware). Luckily, they were able to go out with a bang at Brixton academy on Saturday night, with many saying it was the best show they've ever done. As it stands now, I can't realistically see LTA returning in the future but who really knows, at least they were able to bring it back with their last show.

Again, thanks for reading and feel free to comment below what you think about anything I've discussed here or tell me anything else I should've included.
